2012
According to all the ridiculous hype surrounding 21st December 2012, the Mayans "predicted" the end of the world with one of their calendars. On this date, doomsayers assert that Earth will be ravaged by a smorgasbord of cataclysmic astronomical events - everything from a Planet X flyby to a "killer" solar flare to a geomagnetic reversal, ensuring we have a very, very bad day.
According to Paul’s letter to the Romans,
“We know that the whole creation has been groaning (We know a lot about this groaning…) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Romans 8:22)
So what the Bible teaches (that we don’t hear too much from the Mayan’s about) is Hope. Hope convinces us that there is a future. Hope tells us that God has not and will not abandon us and that we will not be overcome beyond His means to love us or redeem us.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38, 39)
It is with this promise I look forward to 2012.
